FEES
My usual practice is to charge patients $250 for their initial consultation and $150 for repeat consultations which are often shorter. These fees are less than those recommended by the Australian Medical Association. The cost of the first post-operative consultations is generally included in the surgical fees.
Patients are requested to kindly settle their consultation invoice on the day of their appointment.
Patients will receive Informed Financial Consent in relation to all costs associated with their surgery at the time of booking. If you require more clarification in relation to any billing issue please do not hesitate to raise this issue with Mr Harvie or reception staff. Further, if you feel the fees charged will cause you personal financial hardship please raise this directly with Mr Harvie.
It is important that patients understand that other costs may be incurred in addition to those charged by myself for consultations and surgery. These may include:
– Surgical Assistant’s Fee (usually no gap)
– Anesthetist’s Fee
– Private Hospital Fees
– Radiology Fees
– Physiotherapy Fees
– Pharmacy Fees
I have no control over the fee structure of other providers involved in your treatment and I would therefore strongly recommend all patients ascertain from their health fund what level of cover they have and the nature of any additional costs from those involved in your care.
I do offer consultations to uninsured patients and will if required organise a quotation for the cost of surgery in such cases. My main concern for uninsured patients is that if there are any circumstances in which their hospital stay in lengthened or any issues requiring secondary medical conditions to be treated after surgery they can face significantly increased fees.
MAIB, Workcover, DVA and uninsured patients have fees structures outside of what I personally charge therefore my change in fees structure solely applies to privately insured patients.
